HELSINKI – Finnish ship and power plant engine maker Wartsila said it was calling off temporary lay-offs at its plant in Vaasa, western Finland, due to improved demand.
The firm started temporary lay-offs at the plant in December, but said those workers will now be called back.
“At the end of last year we estimated that the volume situation would look better in the second half of this year. However, the turn to improvement happened slightly sooner than anticipated,” said Stefan Damlin, managing director of Wartsila Finland. (Reporting by Terhi Kinnunenl; Editing by Ritsuko Ando)
